Good Morning Mantel ⭐️
Roberto Clemente Display #1 ⭐️ Greatest Humanitarian in Sports
Why do I love Roberto Clemente so much? Aside from being my baseball hero, he was a great human being.
On December 31, 1972, he personally boarded a relief flight carrying aid to victims of a devastating earthquake in Nicaragua because he had learned that previous shipments were being diverted by corrupt officials and were not reaching the people who needed them. The plane crashed shortly after takeoff from San Juan, and Clemente was killed at age 38.
Many athletes have dedicated enormous portions of their lives and fortunes to helping others. Yet, to my knowledge, only Roberto Clemente died while actively engaged in a humanitarian mission.
Clemente's death was not an accident that happened while traveling to a charity event; it occurred because he deliberately chose to accompany relief supplies to increase the chances they would reach earthquake victims.
