I knew nothing about John Herrnstein, other than his appearance on Dick Allen's rookie card, so I decided to read his SABR bio. - He was a two sport start at Michigan. He played fullback and linebacker and was the Wolverines' team captain, but suffered a serious knee injury early in his senior season that required surgery. - He played first base for Jim Bunning's perfect game. - He was part of the Fergie Jenkins trade to the Cubs. - His favorite baseball memory was meeting astronaut Neil Armstrong before a game in Houston.
