Card Stories

Donruss

This card takes me straight back to Saturday mornings ripping packs at the kitchen table. Gene Nelson wasn’t the flashiest name on those late-80s A’s rosters — no Jose Canseco or Rickey Henderson spotlight here — but that’s exactly what makes it special. He was a gritty bullpen arm on one of the most dominant teams of that era, quietly doing his job while Oakland went to three straight World Series from ’88 to ’90.

The blue, red, and black Donruss border design is pure nostalgia fuel. That Wilson glove raised up, the stadium blur in the background, the simple “P” next to his name like that’s all you needed to know. No frills. Just baseball.

Cards like this don’t make you rich, but they tell a story — and that’s the whole point of collecting, isn’t it?

💬 Drop a comment below: What’s a “nobody” card you own that still hits different for you? You know — the ones nobody’s chasing but you can’t bring yourself to let go of.
