Stumbled upon this rookie card for Joe Girardi. He never had a nickname as a player. I guess he didn’t have enough ‘flavor’ - who knows.

I think he’s a Chicago guy. Always solid behind the plate. He was great on the Yanks when they had him. I’m not sure if he won a ring with them though. I don’t think so.

Rumor on NYC sports talk radio is that the Steinbrenne’s didn’t like his honest post game press conferences with the media-when he would tell them which player needs to step up. Because then the media would double down on the player, what the Steinbrenners thought was more pressure on the player creating a vicious doom cycle.
