Manteland Card of The Day ⭐️
1888 Allen & Ginter N28, "World's Champions" ⭐️ Ike Weir
This is the oldest card in my collection.
Ike Weir was an Irish boxer and credited with capturing the first Featherweight World Champion Title.
He was sports' first serious "entertainer", known to dance a jig, or to perform handstands or backflips in the ring for the entertainment of his fans.
Allen & Ginter produced the N28 "World's Champions" cigarette card of pugilists Ike Weir in 1888. The card, officially part of the first series (N28), features Weir and other prominent athletes of the day. Although sometimes cited as 1887, collector research generally confirms 1888 for this, one of the most famous sports card sets ever.
