This card depicts the iconic 1889 fight between John L. Sullivan and Jake Kilrain. This fight holds great historical significance as the last heavyweight championship conducted under the London Prize Ring Rules, which permitted bare-knuckle fighting. Held in Richburg, Mississippi, the fight lasted an incredible 75 rounds over more than two hours in extreme heat before Kilrainās corner surrendered, giving Sullivan the victory. This bout symbolized the end of the bare-knuckle era and the transition to the modern gloved era under the Marquess of Queensberry Rules, cementing Sullivanās status as the first āmodernā heavyweight champion and a cultural icon of 19th-century American sport.
