The Big Red Machine

1959 Topps #338, George "Sparky" Anderson
1960 Topps #34, George "Sparky" Anderson

These are Sparky Anderson's only mainstream playing days cards as a MLB player.
On October 9, 1969, the Cincinnati Reds hired George Anderson, the operator of The Big Red Machine.
He was the steady hand and brilliant strategist behind the Cincinnati Reds’ “Big Red Machine,” guiding them to back-to-back World Series championships in 1975 and 1976. Known as “Captain Hook” for his quick pitching changes, he managed egos and stars with ease, keeping a roster full of future Hall of Famers focused on winning as a team. His leadership and trust in his players cemented the Reds’ dynasty as one of the most dominant teams in baseball history.
