Shelby Miller

Texas Heat

For my 100th post I’m gonna go with a kid that had huge expectations but didn’t really fulfill them. This kid in high school though was untouchable. Shelby Miller’s high school baseball career at Brownwood High School in Brownwood, Texas was nothing short of spectacular.

• Sophomore year: Pitched a no-hitter and led his team to the regional semifinals.

• Junior year (2008): Threw three consecutive no-hitters, including one perfect game—a rare feat. Scouts began to take major notice.

• Senior year: Posted a 10–2 record with a 1.90 ERA, racking up 153 strikeouts in just about 77⅔ innings. His fastball topped out at 97 mph. These dominant numbers earned him comparisons to legendary Texas power pitchers like Nolan Ryan and Josh Beckett.

Career high school résumé: Ended his prep career with four no-hitters (three during his junior year) and was named a second-team All-American by Baseball America in 2009.
