This is one of my favorite 1952 Topps cards, and not for the image on the front, but for the bio on the back of the card.
The most publicized player ball-player of WWII, the “Hondo Hurricane” became a Giant in 1947. Clint had so much talent they didn’t know where to play him.
1952 was Clint's final season in the majors. Baseball historian Bill James gave out the Clint Hartung award for the most hyped rookie of each decade. Other winners include David Clyde, Shawn Abner, and Brien Taylor.
