I’m still waiting for the movie. What a story it Would tell. He was a great man! Flaws & all, I did get to meet him once; wish I could have spent more time with him!!! I umpired more games then I can count at Hoover High School where he studied & graduated. I always wondered, “Where’s the statue? Why is this field that was his high school field not a site set up as a tourist attraction & more to honor his legacy?”. It’s named for him & had a fairly recent upgrade, but come on? Great ballplayer, but so much more. Took a little break as a Marine fighter pilot in 2 Wars for his country. Here’s 2 sketch cards I did of him.
