1933 Goudey #158, Moe Berg.
The catcher was a spy. 🕵 There is a display at the CIA dedicated to Moe Berg.
Moe Berg is an iconic figure in baseball history, known as much for his intellect as his athleticism. A journeyman catcher who played in the major leagues from 1923 to 1939, Berg was never a star on the field, but his reputation off the diamond was legendary. Fluent in several languages and a graduate of Princeton and Columbia Law School, he famously said, “I’d rather be a ballplayer than a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.” During World War II, Berg served as a spy for the Office of Strategic Services, using his linguistic skills and baseball fame to gather intelligence in Europe. His unique blend of brains and baseball has made him one of the most intriguing characters in the sport’s history.
Happy Friday friends and card folk. 🌞
