The 1910 heavyweight title match between Jack Johnson (the first African American heavyweight champion) and Jim Jeffries ("The Great White Hope") is still widely regarded as the most culturally significant sporting event of its time.
This was boxing's first "Fight of the Century", and Jack Johnson knocked out the "The Great White Hope" James J. Jeffries in round 15 to retain his World Heavyweight Championship title.
