After Bill Mazeroski hit one of the most iconic walkoff HRs in MLB history, one might think this card would instantly became worth its weight in gold, but that is not the case.
Although, around the Pittsburgh region the card was highly sought after, nationally folks were more interested in collecting the stars of the day, like Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Stan Musial.
Today, however, collectors have elevated the status of this card as Maz's career has been recontextualized -- his homer remains the only walk-off HR in World Series Game 7 history; he was elected to the Hall of Fame (2001); and the 1960 Topps design has become a more beloved (also polarizing) set.
