The greatest composer to ever live?
Vintage non-sports cards go beyond the Presidential scene. Liebig is a company that produced trade cards as early as the 1880s, up through the mid-20th century. The 1893 Liebig S374 set features 6 composers: Rossini, Wagner, Verdi, Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. These are some of the earliest cards of these figures to exist, and in my opinion, the best looking.
I discovered these a couple of years ago and tracked down a full set. I graded the Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach myself - the first copies ever graded by ANY grading company. The artwork on these cards are incredible, given the fact they are 131 years old.
Pictured is my copy - the first graded copy - of the 1893 Liebig S374 Beethoven. I’ve graded and owned multiple copies of each figure, but despite getting higher grades, I find it cool to own the first ever acknowledged copy by grading companies.
