My collection of very rare ancient Edom quarter shekel coins from the 4th century BC. By todays' geography the land of Edom borders Israel and Southwest Jordan between the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba.

During the Greek and Roman periods, the area was referred to as Idumaea and the people were likewise called Idumaeans.

The Kingdom of Edom and its people are discussed in the Hebrew bible and in the Tanakh (scriptures). At some points in history they were friendly towards and united with the Jews and in other times they murdered, plundered and destroyed.

These coins are considered to be R1 rarity according to David Hendin, a world renown scholar on ancient Biblical and Judaean coins - meaning there are likely between 100 to 500 examples in existence.
