Good Morning Mantel 🌞
2001 Fleer Greats of the Game Autographs, Monte Irvin ⭐ MLB Pioneer
A celebration of Black History Month with a salute to Monte Irvin.
Monte Irvin overcame countless obstacles to become one of the best MLB players of his day, earning a spot in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
As a player, Monte Irvin was a star in the Negro Leagues, with the Newark Eagles, before starring with the NY Giants in the N.L.
Whether it was in the Negro League or N.L., he was one of the most feared hitters of his era.
When he finally reached Major League Baseball with the New York Giants, he helped lead them to a 1954 World Series championship and finished third in the 1951 NL MVP voting. To say he excelled at baseball's highest level would be an understatement considering he lost years of his prime to U.S. segregation policies and three years while serving his Nation in the U.S. Army (1943-45).
