Mark started his career as a struggling starting pitcher who led the National League in earned runs in 1984 with 104. Converted to a relief pitcher he had a very strong 1989 season, leading the National League with 44 saves and winning the Cy Young award. He set a Major League record that season by converting a save on five consecutive days (since tied). After getting a huge free agent contract that offseason he lost his effectiveness and struggled as a relief pitcher through the 1997 season. He holds the ignominious record of being the pitcher who has the worst career pitching record (51-84) amongst pitchers who have won a Cy Young award. Mark Davis turns 66 today.
