“Iron Mike” was a two-time All Pro tight end for 12 National Football League seasons. One of the first true threats from the tight end position as a receiver, he’s the first tight end to gain 1,000 yards in his rookie season of 1961. After his playing days he went into coaching and spent 14 seasons as a head coach leading his Chicago Bears to the Super Bowl XX title. He and Tom Flores are the only people to win a Super Bowl as a player, assistant coach and head coach. Mike Ditka passed away today at the age of 86.
