2021-22 Leaf Pearl Don Drysdale Hallowed Heroes, Numbered 10/12.
The connection between Don Drysdale and Roy Campanella symbolizes a generational bridge and an emotional chapter in Major League Baseball history.
Roy Campanella, a MLB Pioneer, played in the Negro Leagues, beginning his career with the Baltimore Elite (pronounced "ee-LITE") Giants in 1937 and continuing to play there until 1945, before ultimately joining the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1948.
Don Drysdale came to the Dodgers in their final year in Brooklyn. He was a fiery, brash, and intimidating pitcher who, in many ways, helped define the Dodgers move to LA and establish their modern legacy.
Although their overlapping time on the field was brief, they only played 2 years together, Campanella played a key mentorship role during Drysdaleβs early career. Campanella's playing career ended in a tragic car accident in 1958.
These cards are a hauntingly beautiful tribute to two MLB Greats.
