On August 6, 1952, one of MLB's greatest pitching duels occurred pitting MLB Pioneer Satchel Paige (St Louis Browns) against cagey veteran Virgil Trucks (Detroit Tigers).
Paige had been playing professional baseball in the Negro League since the mid-1920's and was 45 years-old. Trucks was 35 when they faced off.

Satchel pitched a CG, 12-inning shutout to win 1-0. Trucks pitched 9 scoreless innings for the no decision.
