Paul Skenes represents everything good about the United States.
As America celebrates its 250th birthday, it is worth remembering that the nation's strength has always depended not merely on gifted individuals, but on citizens of character. Talent may inspire admiration, but character inspires trust. The qualities Skenes displays—integrity, self-discipline, perseverance, respect, and quiet confidence—are the same qualities that have long sustained the American experiment. They remind us that excellence is not measured solely by achievement, but by the manner in which achievement is pursued.
Paul Skenes has become a role model without ever seeming to seek that role.
His reputation has been built less on how he conducts himself, not words.
His years at the United States Air Force Academy also have impacted his character in a positive way. Even after departing the AFA, he has continued to speak with respect about the discipline, responsibility, and service-minded culture he experienced there.
He has been dominant and he has struggled, but his demeanor changes little.
He simply returns to work.
Not to mention that he has proudly worn the colors of his Country in athletic competition every time he gets the opportunity to do so.
