1965 Washington Senators Yearbook
Growing up in DC, my childhood idol was Frank Howard. Sure, they weren’t contenders to win the AL East, but I didn’t care.
Baseball is baseball and a lot of us were very angry the owner, Bob Short, moved the team to Texas to become the Rangers in 1972. It took 33 years for DC to finally get the Expos move down from Montreal to become the Nationals.
But through all this, Frank Howard, was still a local hero. He has a statue in front of Nationals stadium. To me, the cover epitomizes how baseball is remembered to people of my generation and is so much a part of growing up and American culture. What are your thoughts?
