Pen Collecting?!

Cards

Pens

This story published too late for me to include it in Mail Day this week, but it was interesting enough I wanted to share.

The NYT (paywalled) article goes DEEP on the London Pen Show, and the people who collect rare and valuable pens.

JR Fickle doesn't collect pens- I'm a "dictated, not read" kinda guy. But I loved the parallels between these fancy schmancy pens and cards, toys, memorabilia. It's all the same thing! We obsess over the same details! We negotiate! Waste endless hours on research! Go to shows and make friends!

Just goes to show you- a collector is a special type of human. The object might change, but the people in each of these circles are sort of the same.

Seeking ‘Warmth and Personality’ in the World of High-Priced Pens

For collectors and enthusiasts at the London Pen Show, the finest writing instruments can cost thousands of dollars. As one dealer put it, “This is art of the highest quality.”
