Integritas Non Negotiatur⭐
1956 Topps #250, Larry Doby ⭐ MLB Pioneer
On the field, Larry Doby was one of the premier power hitters and center fielders of the late 1940s and 1950s. He finished his career with 253 home runs and he twice led the A.L. in home runs (1952 and 1954). Doby was a 7 x All-Star, and he led the 1948 Cleveland Indians to the franchise's only World Series title.
Off the field, Larry Doby was widely regarded as a man of exceptional dignity, restraint, and integrity. Unlike Jackie Robinson, who was chosen in part for his willingness to confront racism head-on, Doby was more soft-spoken by nature, yet he endured just as much hostility—often without institutional backing from teammates, management, or the media. He faced segregation, isolation, and abuse quietly and professionally, choosing not to respond with bitterness or public confrontation. That composure was not passivity; it was discipline, self-control, and a deliberate commitment to represent himself—and the game—with honor.
