2024 Bowman's Best Fabled Phenoms Die-Cut #FP-21, Paul Skenes.⭐
It's not uncommon for a pitcher to experience a sophomore slump, especially a starter.
The Major League season is a full month longer than the minor league season, and it's not typical that a rookie will start the season on the Opening Day roster.
So it's rare that a rookie will experience the full slog of a big league season -- that's usually in their second year. Skenes was called up on May 11, 2024, which means that he was about one month short of a full Major League season.
He's not dropping off from his superb 2024 performance which earned him the 2024 Rookie of the Year Award. In fact, by all accounts Paul Skenes is getting better.
The one "knock" on Skenes' season pitching line going into last night's game was that he was below .500.
"Yeah, they can't say that anymore," said Skenes in an interview as he raiesed his record to 10-9.
Skenes lowered his season ERA to an incredible 1.98, and with less than four weeks in the regular season left, looks like one of the favorites for the National League Cy Young award.
