Agganis was taken in the first round of the 1952 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Despite a promise from Paul Brown that he would one day take over for Otto Graham as the team's QB, he chose to play baseball instead, signing with his hometown Boston Red Sox.
Tragically, Agganis passed away during the 1955 season of a pulmonary embolism. He was just 26.
He was inducted into the College Football HOF in 1974.
