1933 Goudey Indian Gum #139, Samoset 🦃
Samoset was the first Native person to approach the Pilgrims speaking clear English, opening the door to peaceful communication. His greeting and willingness to share information about the region helped ease tensions and establish initial trust. Samoset also introduced the Pilgrims to Squanto and Massasoit, relationships that proved essential to the colony’s survival. Samoset's role as Native American ambassador to the Pilgrims fostered contact and cooperation paving the way for and making the first Thanksgiving possible.
