Great to see so many new faces joining Mantel on app launch day. I’ve been here for the better part of a year but wanted to drop a post to introduce myself.
I’m a ‘90s kid who recently fell in love with vintage football cards (I’m talking 1959 and older). It all started a couple years ago when my brother made an offhand recommendation that I should look into early football card collecting because the prices were so much lower than baseball cards from the same era. At this point I’m kind of addicted. My other passion is buying game-used football jerseys and photo-matching them to specific games. I have some posts on here about that process (think Geoguessr, but for sporting events).
My latest purchases are these 1948-52 Exhibits cards of “Tank” Younger and hall-of-famer Emlen Tunnell. I love how this set captures the early style of play and the equipment from that era. The gray backgrounds also give them an ephemeral feel.
