This is a big one for Collectors MD.

Today, GQ published an in-depth feature exploring the intersection between sports cards, breaking, gambling-adjacent behaviors, and the very real harm some collectors are experiencing.

I’m incredibly grateful to GQ and Charlie Sosnick for taking the time to dig deeply into these issues, speak with our community members and our partners across the hobby and behavioral health space, and shine a national spotlight on the work Collectors MD is doing to help those whose relationship with collecting has stopped feeling healthy.

When we launched Collectors MD in March of 2025, one of the biggest challenges was simply helping people understand that this problem existed. For many who were struggling, traditional gambling resources didn’t always feel like they fit, while the collecting community didn’t necessarily have the language or support infrastructure to recognize what they were experiencing.

That gap is exactly why Collectors MD exists.

This conversation isn’t about demonizing collecting, breaking, or the hobby. It’s about acknowledging that the modern hobby has fundamentally changed, recognizing where risks can exist, and making sure education, prevention, support, and healthier ways to engage evolve alongside it.

Seeing this conversation covered at this level means a lot - but more importantly, it helps ensure that the people quietly struggling know that they aren’t alone and that support exists.
