Today we celebrate the Pine Tar Game, which happened back in 1983. With two outs in the ninth at Yankee Stadium, George Brett hit a two-run homer off Goose Gossage to give the Royals a 5-4 lead - only to be called out because the pine tar on his bat extended too far up the barrel. Brett's subsequent charge out of the dugout became one of the most iconic images in baseball history. The Royals protested, the ruling was eventually overturned, and the game was resumed weeks later with KC winning 5-4.

I remember coming in from working on the farm that day with my dad and having the game on while we ate, and I'll never forget the range of emotions - excitement about the home run, confusion about the discussion among the umps, and then sheer amazement as I watched Brett come charging out of the dugout.

Forty-three years later, it's still one of those baseball moments I can remember exactly where I was when it happened.
