He missed pitching complete games in a in both games of doubleheader for the Brooklyn Dodgers by leaving in the 7th inning of the second game, trailing Curt Simmons and the Philadelphia Phillies, 2 – 0. The Dodgers came back and won 3-2, Gil Hodges delivers the key hit a bases-loaded single with 2 outs that scored all three runs.
