Shawn played in all or parts of 16 National Hockey League seasons, mostly with the Detroit Red Wings. In four seasons he received votes for the Selke Award and in 1989-90 he had his most prolific offensive year with 56 points. After his playing days he was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia and received a bone marrow transplant. Shawn Burr would have turned 60 today but passed away after a fall in his home left him with severe brain trauma back in 2013 at the age of 47.
