A childhood friend of Dwight Gooden, Floyd was drafted by the New York Mets one round later than Gooden but wouldn’t make the Majors until a trade to the Montreal Expos. In 1986 he finished third in the National League in strikeouts (202) but led the league in walks (118). Thereafter, he’d never pitch a full season in the Majors again (he pitched three partial ones) due to a combination of injuries and substance abuse issues. Floyd Youmans turns 62 today.
