MLS kicks off 30 years ago with a fantastic goal.
I just picked up two programs of the initial MLS game 30 years ago. Now we see Son, Messi, and Muller in the middle of the MLS playoffs. But it all started 30 years when the San Jose Clash (team would move back to original Earthquakes name a few years later) hosted DC United at San Jose State's Spartan Stadium. It looked like the first MLS game would remain 0-0 for a poor League debut result. Then 5 minutes from time, Eric Wynalda changed the story and history, putting this beauty in the back of the onion bag, after a meg of international teammate Jeff Agoos. Other great names from that first season were Mexico legend Jorge Campos at LA Galaxy, Milan, and Italy great Robert Donadoni at age 32 with the NY MetroStars, plus the legendary Columbian "El Pipe" Valderrama at the Tampa Bay Mutiny. My favorite ad in the program is for a new movie coming out at the time called Mission Impossible. San Jose Clash - 04-06-96 - Eric Wynalda Goal
