What I love about Mantel is the exposure to different category collectors. I first heard of Type 1 photos here a year ago from Sweetpea. I have since collected a few Futbol photos but wanted to share a Football one on Super Bowl weekend. I love this Doug Williams original press photo. This is when he was playing for the Arizona Outlaws after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not renew his contract. His wife had recently passed away due to an aneurysm. This was a tough time in his career. As always, I love the story behind a collectible and the DNA on the back tells a story.
Doug's quote on the clipped article is pasted on the back. You can feel what he was going through. I have tried to find the full article with no luck, maybe someone here, who loves the grind of the search will find it. Every remarkable story has the hero struggling or stumbling then overcomes for the feel-good end to the story. In this case, the ending would be Super Bowl XXII playing for Washington. Incredible man, Incredible story.
