Ellie was a two-time All Star catcher but never played in either game. He led American League catchers with 782 putouts and 75 assists in 1974 while with the California Angels and he caught Nolan Ryan’s fourth no-hitter. Ellie Rodriguez passed away yesterday at the age of 79.
