1959 Topps #464, Mays Catch Makes Series History ⭐ MLB Pioneer, Willie Mays
Willie Mays' "The Catch"
Willie played in the Negro League for the Birmingham Black Barons.
In the eighth inning of Game 1 of the 1954 World Series at the Polo Grounds, with the score tied and two men on base, Cleveland Indians batter Vic Wertz hit a deep fly ball to center field.
Willie Mays, playing CF for the New York Giants, made a remarkable running, over-the-shoulder catch just before the outfield wall.
The catch prevented the runners from scoring and is considered one of the most famous and greatest plays in baseball history.
Happy Monday friends and card folk!🌞
Have a great day! 👊
