Debate! Is the MJ/Kobe Logoman sale good or bad for The Hobby?

Basketball

Was reading two good pieces this week- one from @Will about, in a sense, how The Hobby has always been a business, and rich collectors buying up prized pieces is nothing new... and one from @yanxchick that raises the alarm about how The Hobby is shifting away from true "collecting" and seems to be more about buying/selling than ever before.

Both pieces are linked to below.

I'm curious what this group thinks- is The Hobby still collecting-first or more about the $$, and was this record-breaking sale good for the health of this industry or bad?

Let's hear your takes!

Why This Card Boom Is Different (And Dangerous)

This shift threatens the culture that made cards valuable in the first place.
