On August 28, 1990, Ryne Sandberg of the Chicago Cubs becomes the first second baseman to hit 30 home runs in consecutive seasons when he homers in the fourth inning vs. Astros in the Cubs’ 5-2 win, at the Astrodome. Sandberg finished the season with 40 HRs, the most in the National League as the Cubs become the only team to have 40+ homerun hitters at shortstop and second base.
