This beautiful postcard depicts a man from another time…
“I had a spur which most baseball players do not have. The shadow of the coal mines was on me. I experienced all there was to experience and I never want to see a mine again.” - HOFer and native of NE PA, Ed Walsh, in 1913. His brother died in the mine where he worked. Walsh pitched more innings in a season (464) than anyone since 1893, and he still holds the all-time lowest career ERA (1.82).
