One of my favorite cards. Johnny with the bat resting on his shoulder and a little bit of a smile. The clear blue sky in the background. All framed by the classic 1971 Topps black borders. Just a great looking baseball card.

What a great player and one of the best at his position. Cards in the later sets like ‘73 and ‘74 have much better photos but sometimes the classic card photos are not so bad.

On July 26, 1970,  Johnny Bench hit three consecutive home runs and seven RBIs vs the St. Louis Cardinals. Bench hits all three HRs off Steve Carlton and added a single in the Reds’ 12 – 5 win over the Cards.
