Before Pokémon launched in the US, Trainer Deck A (aka Brock's Deck) was quietly distributed to help League Leaders get familiar with the TCG.
These decks weren't sold to the public — all cards were marked with red borders and lettering on the back to help prevent resale. But of course, that only made them more coveted over time...
Since I work at Courtyard.io and nerd out about these kinds of stories, I was hyped to see this Onix from the deck in land in our Pokémon auction this week.

The Pokémon Company has been teasing a few cards from the upcoming Shrouded Fable set, and with it comes an illustration style we've never seen in Pokémon cards before, inspired by Japanese Ukiyo-e (woodblock) artwork.
You can especially see the influence on the Kingdra ex card, with waves that nod to one of the most ubiquitous woodblock prints, The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
There have been a lot of new expansions releasing lately, but I'm excited for this one – the Pokémon lore and this art style are a perfect match IMO.
