Books to Collectibles #1
My first post on Books to Collectibles following a post idea earlier today regarding a possible Mantel Book Club group. When I first landed on Mantel about a year ago, I was 100% focused on soccer collecting. Physical cards for vintage soccer, and licensed NFTs for modern soccer. Then I started reading about all the collectible categories loved and shared by folks here on Mantel. New to comics, entering the comic universe felt like showing up at a tsunami with a homemade surfboard. Needing some background, I purchased this book American Comics A History by Jeremy Dauber. Finished the book in a week! Loved it! Here is a professional synopsis on the book. American Comics: A History by Jeremy Dauber | Goodreads. Eager to chunk down the comic tsunami to a ripple, I came across the Hernandez Brothers comic Love and Rockets. I am one of three brothers, also live in California, and I am the same age as the Hernandez Brothers. Plus, Love and Rockets was one of my early favorite bands, it is so cool that a comic inspired the name of that band. Watching this documentary on the comic sealed it for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTYzqHRqRQU.
This documentary led me to my next book on comics - Reading Love and Rockets by Marc Sobel, where I am taking a deeper dive into the Love and Rockets comic collection. For folks here who prefer fiction to non-fiction, I highly recommend the Pulitzer Prize winning book The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier Clay by Michael Chabon. Half-way through it (long read). I am enjoying the characters and story behind the Escapist and Luna Moth Superhero's.
What is your favorite book with a tie to a collectible(s) that you enjoyed or would recommend?
