I met Angus Scrimm, best known as The Tall Man from Phantasm, at a local comic convention in Los Angeles.
What struck me immediately was how genuine and warm he was in real life—completely opposite the ominous character he portrayed on screen. He wasn’t there to promote himself or relive past fame; he was simply supporting a friend who was promoting a film.
When I asked for his autograph, he took time to talk with me. He asked thoughtful questions about my life and what I was working toward. There was no judgment or agenda behind his curiosity—just sincere interest. It left a lasting impression.
Seeing such a stark contrast between the man and the character was a powerful reminder of the magic of acting.
Rest in peace, Mr. Scrimm.
