1893 Colgate Academy Football letter

Post image 1

1893 letter from the manager of the Colgate Academy football team to the manager of the Johnstown YMCA asking for a game. Colgate Academy was basically the local prep school that was near Colgate University in the late 1800s / early 1900s. Not sure if they ever did play a game.

"Dear Sir: Hearing of the great success which you have gained upon the athletic field in football, I should like to arrange a game with you. Our dates are filled for home games but should be glad to give you a game on your grounds. What guarantee will you make us for a game? Please make us an offer and mention a date."

2008 Colgate vs Cornell Program

This was a breakout game for Colgate freshman Nate Eachus. He played at LB in the 1st half recording 3 tackles and a sack. When all-everything RB Jordan Scott got hurt in the 2nd half, Nate took over and finished with 37 carries, 241 yards, and 3TD. Colgate won 38-22.

Four years earlier, Jordan also started his career as a LB before injuries brought him to the offensive side of the ball. He finished his career as Colgate's all-time leading rusher and scoring leader with 5,621 yards and 57TD. His 1,240 career rushing attempts are still a Division 1 record.

2018 Nick Wheeler - Colgate vs Lafayette Game Used Throwback Jersey

Colgate wore these throwbacks in 2018 as a nod to the 1932 team. In the spirit of the '32 team (who went Undefeated, Untied, Unscoredupon, and Uninvited to the Rose Bowl), the 2018 team had a stretch of 8 games where they allowed a total of 12 points with 5 of those wins by shutout. The anchor of that defense was Nick Wheeler who finished his career with a program record 33 sacks.
