1962 Topps #199, Gaylord Perry ⭐ Cy Young Award On October 25, 1978, the Padres' Gaylord Perry (21-6, 2.72) won the National League Cy Young Award. This makes Perry the first pitcher to in the Cy Young Award n both leagues as he also won the honor with the Indians in 1972.
This is a Cy Young Award auto by Cliff Lee on an MLB ball my Uncle got me for Christmas one year. He got it at a charity auction in Boston. He didn’t win Cy Young yet at the time but I knew he was a good lefty and loved the ball. Not sure how the auto is fading since it’s just been in storage but still visible but I know there’s some sort of chemical answer.
One of my favorite pitchers early on in my 2nd attempt at collecting. Loved everything about the dude. Shook his hand at a Texas Ranger game and got a signed ball. I always blame myself because after I shook his hand his pitching career started to decline.
