Shepard Fairey is one of the most well-known American urban artists. From Charleston, SC he made his name making the OBEY brand famous from his Andre the Giant-themed street art. He makes high-volume great, very collectible prints (and now clothing and other swag). I paired this image of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for my dad in his study as he had a personal relationship with him and had some great conversations with him in Dharmsala, India in the 1960’s.

To wrap up and follow up my last post of HHDL autographed Topps card, here is type I photograph of my grandfather (seated in a tie) with the Dalai Lama in 1966, a few years after he was exiled by China and Tibet was annexed. He worked as an attache for HHDL for the Indian government.

This one is a pretty cool one. Don’t see a lot of His Holiness the Dalai Lama (HHDL) autographs out there in the wild. Not like he’s doing signing events or signing autographs through the mail. I’ve met him twice, once in Bloomington, Indiana and once in Northern India, near the Tibetan border. Fun fact: my grandfather was the attaché to the exiled leader in Indian back in the early 1960’s and have family ties and stories about HHDL. This is one that will never be for sale.
