Some of you might’ve noticed that PSA is steadily approaching certified card number 100,000,000. I’m referring to the unique serial number that appears on their graded card slabs. Right now they’re somewhere between 99,400,000 and 99,500,000. I’m wondering: does the card slabbed with serial number 100,000,000 carry a premium, and if so, what is it?
I’ve seen that there’s a currency collecting lane where people buy bills with unique serial numbers, and I’m wondering if that starts to happen with PSA graded cards now that the serial numbers are large enough to have patterns. For example, PSA graded card #12345678 is a 1989 Upper Deck Gary Sheffield. I wonder who owns it, if they noticed the serial number, and what it would sell for if purely advertised for the serial number? What about card #11111111 - a 1958 Topps Gary Glick? What about serial numbers for famous dates, like 07041776 (1989 Donruss Ken Griffey Jr)? Have I just invented a new collectible lane? Is this thing still on?
