Jack Nicklaus turns 85 years old today. This Time cover celebrates his 1962 U.S. Open playoff victory over the King himself, Arnold Palmer. Nicklaus was just 22 when he captured the first of his 18 major championships.

Many of Time’s most famous covers feature illustrated portraits, rather than photographs. This one was painted by the late Russell Hoban, who also created cover art for Sports Illustrated and The Saturday Evening Post before gaining greater notoriety as a prolific fantasy author.

I don’t have a lot of golf cards. Maybe 4-5? This, a couple more of his autos, and a few Tiger Woods cards. “The Golden Bear”, named after his golden locks, has his home course at Murfield in Upper Arlington, Ohio - a suburb of Columbus. I’ve seen him many times there. I’ve wanted one of these for a long time but they are getting more expensive in good condition. I put “rookie” in quotes as it’s often referred to as his rookie card even though he has a rare earlier Panini smaller sized card. I want one of those, but they are getting pricey, too!
