Kiner debuted in 1946, so his true rookie is the 1948 Bowman. Notwithstanding, the 1950 Bowman remains an important card of a Hall of Fame slugger who became a beloved broadcaster.

In 1948, Ralph Kiner of the Pittsburgh Pirates led the National League in home runs with 40, earning the second of what would become seven consecutive league home run titles. In the American League, Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees topped the leaderboard with 39, pacing the Bronx Bombers to another pennant and cementing his reputation as one of the era’s most complete hitters. Power hitting was working its way back into postwar baseball.
